Wednesday, August 27, 1873

(Eastern Point) Up at 7. Bright, comfortable day. Wrote letters. Wrote up diary. Off at 9.55 with Johnny for New London. Thence by 11.15 train to Thames Grove to attend picnic of 1st Cong. S.S. Groton. Johnny spoke of S.S. priviledges east and west. I spoke of deaf-mute signs. Pleasant day in woods. Back to New London about 6pm. To Edgecombe House by 7pm boat. Met. Mr. Germaine on boat. Lunch at house in evening. Retired after reading awhile at 10.30.
