Thursday, August 21, 1873

(Eastern Point) Up at 6.40. Cloudy morning. Wrote letters. Sent check to Mr. Fessenden for premium on life policy. Over to New London by 1.40 boat, making the run to dock from house in ten minutes. Received $500 from Mr. Merriam for Freedman's work of the Am. S.S. Union. Called on Mr. Knowles of 1st Bap. S.S. Obtained "Examiner & Chronicle" at post office. Back to house by 4 o'clock boat. Long talk with Johnny about need of training for life work. Read and chatted in evening. Retired about 9.40.
