(Hartford) Up at 8.10. Damp and lowering day. Out with Johnny to Father's. With them went to polls to vote at state and city election. Johnny cast his first vote. Called at post-office, Talcott & Post's, Rawson Reed's, etc. Returned to house at noon feeling quite weak. Called at Father's after dinner. Saw Gurdon's new fish picture. Wrote letters about Knightly Soldier. Gave copy of book to James. Downtown with Johnny. Called at Kibbe's, Geer & Pond's, and Seidler's. In evening, balanced cash. Downtown with Johnny at 9pm to see about election returns. At Courant office, with Gen. Hawley, Gov. Jewell, & others until 11. At Central Hall a half hour, hearing Gen. Hall & Gen. Hawley speak. Ate oysters with Hawley. Again at his office until 1.40. Back to hill with T. T. Fisher & Johnny. Retired at 2. Sent ten S.S. letters and one other.

(Hartford) Up at 8.10. Rainy morning. Off at 9.40 for Springfield, after looking over plans for attic-rooms with Johnny. Wrote on letter to Gray on cars. Called at Holland's. Met Dickerson there, and talked over account for Mch. with him. Called at Mrs. Merriam's. Dined at Massasoit. Off for home at 2.20. Wrote on diary and letter to Gray, and balance of Alice & Bridget's accounts on cars. Sun came out at 11 o'clock. Home at 3.30. Downtown before tea. Bought cakes. In evening Mr. Lyman worked on trunks for Alice & Bridget. Sent letter to Gray. Wrote letters in evening. Retired at 10, very tired. Sent two letters.

Obtained check for Knowles. Ordered mattress and pillows for Johnny's bed. Looked at straw matting. In evening, Johnny went to lecture with Sophy. Downtown to post-office. Called at Courant office. Had talk with Gov. Jewell about prospects of elections. Called at Father's. Balanced cash. Hung brackets. Retired at 12. Sent twenty S.S. letters and one other.

At 2pm attended Jamie Chapman's funeral. Twichell called in the morning and asked me to preach for him on Sunday. McClunie and his men at work on grounds. Went with Johnny to Afflecks to pick out shrubs. Downt with Johnny to Gas Co's office. Met Dr. Vermilye and talked of S.S. work. Wrote letters and evening. Sent ten S.S. letters and telegrams. Johnny obtained blue pill for me. Took does of it. Retired at 11.

At Spring'd heard of breakdown of freight train on track. Rode to Thompsonville and waited. Thence to W. 0000 and waited. Delay of three hours on road. Home at 10.30. Late supper. Finished sermon about 1.15. Retired at 1.45am. Telegraphed Alice, by Shute.

Walked back with Fred. Very tired. After brief rest, walked with Fred & Johnny out to Camps. Talked and prayed with Mrs. Camp. Back to house for evening. Again had worship. Fred went to call at Tryon's. Talked with Spaulding. Retired at 10.30.

Worked on hanging pictures in Gallaudet room until 3pm. Made ready for a start for Boston. Downtown with Johnny. At 4.45 met Kate Budd & boys at cars. Returned with them to house. Wrote letters. Off with Johnny at 7 for Springfield. Met Holland at Massasoit. Mr. & Mrs. Barlett on cars. Called at Mrs. Merriam's. Met Bradley, just engaged to May Gray. Sat there until 10. Back to hotel. Talked with Johnny of Convention report, Bible history, etc. Retired at 12. Sent three S.S. letters and telegrams and one other.

Called with Shute on Mr. Coolidge. Dined at Parker's. Off at 3pm for home. Met Mr. Arms, Miss Buckingham and others on cars. Worked again on travel items for 1870. Supped at Massasoit. Home at 7.30. Gurdon had been trout-fishing with good success. Rode downtown with him. Took bath. Went to bed at 10.30, taking hot cream of tartar. Sent letter to Fred from Springfield.

Went with Prof. Smith to Mr. Williston's, to meet Trustees of seminary to talk with them about general catalogue. Took tea at Dr. Seelye's with Mrs. Camp and Walter. Off at 6.30 for Spring'd, via Mt. Tom. Thence to Boston, at Parker House at 11.30. Mr. Camp came to my room. Talked with him as to Lowell until 1am. Sent one telegram.

Called with him at Allyn House on Mr. Blackstone. Later took tea with Mr. Camp at Brigg's. Retired at 11.30.

In evening called at Father's, after prayers at home. Retired at 10.30.

Called at Billy Pendleton's. Rode to depot with Dr, calling at Uncle Frank's. Off for New London at 2. On to Willimantic by 2.45 train. Rode about Willimantic with former Rockville man. Home at 6.30. Wrote article for Advance on cars. Saw fireworks in evening. Talked with Mr. Chapman. Retired at 11.

In New York went home with him to Judge Woodruff's house for night - his family being absent. Read awhile. Retired at 12.45. Unable to sleep until nearly 3. Very nervous. Sent four S.S. letters.

Sat with him and Mrs. Allen at their breakfast. Chatted in his room awhile. Down to Bible House. Met Tyler and went with him to see Mr. Monroe. Thence to Wallace Gallaudet's. Over to Brooklyn to Strong Pl. Church to attend wedding of Prof. Fray of Nat'l Deaf Mute College. Rev. H. W. Beecher performed the ceremony. Attended reception at Mr. Bradshaw's. Met most of Gallaudet family. Dined at A. Woodruff's. Over to N.Y. with Ned & Mr. Draper. Called at Tyler's office. Met Kingsbury. Attended Foreign S.S. Committee. Took supper with Kingsbury at Hoffman House. Off for home at 8. At home and retired at 1.45. Sent 11 S.S. letters and one other.

With them to Glazier's, to see picture of Gurdon's. Out to depot to meet Kingsbury. He did not come. After dinner wrote letters. Johnny went out to Wethersfield. Put wire up for Wisterias. Rob't Erwin came to tea. Off at 7.15 for Boston. Wrote up diary on cars. Met Mrs. Durant. Stopped with her at Wellesley. Pleasant caht with Mr. Durant. Retired at 11.40. Sent thirteen S.S. letters & telegrams, and two others.

Retired at 12.15 after sorting pamphlets in cases on book shelves. Sent five S.S. letters and one other.
