(Hartford) Up at 7.45. Hot day. Read letters. Downtown. Bought crockery at Wells', Mrs. Lizzie Smith came from Glastonbury. Gaver her aid. She dined with us. In evening went to Christ Church. Heard Prof. Porter deliver his oration before the Phi Beta Kappa society. He just elected president of Yale. Chatted with him at close of service. Retired at 12.15 after sorting pamphlets in cases on book shelves. Sent five S.S. letters and one other.
