Friday, July 16, 1869

(Hartford) Up at 8. Man finished putting in coal. Wrote sundry letters. Very hot day. Downtown before dinner. At noon, man came from Springfield to secure money for Packardville church. Walked with him to Twichell's. Thence to Rowland Swift's. Suffered with heat. Off for Springfield at 4.45. Met Holland & Marsh. Read article on S. S. Canvass to Holland. Called at Mrs. Merriam's. Took supper at Massasoit. Had talk with Marsh. Off for Boston at 8.30. Stopped at Parker House. Took cold bath. Retired at 1am. Sent nine S.S. letters & telegrams.
